Burnett Scottish Day / Laird Plaid

Description

The Laird's plaid, also called The Day plaid or Shepherd's plaid, was part of the Highland attire. Made popular when worn by many Clan Chiefs in the early 1900s. King Edward VIII also wore the plaid this way, which again added to it's popularity.

We make these with a Purled Fringe from Heavyweight Tartan. They are 2.3 meters in length by 1.4 meters wide. These are worn either folded and over the shoulder or worn diagonally. A good alternative to the traditional plaid.

There is a story behind this plaid, it was supposed to be large enough so when a gentleman took his lady out on the moor it was large enough to lay it down and have a picnic on.

Please note these are made to order and take 2-3 weeks to have made. If you can't find the tartan you are looking for please contact us at support@scotclans.com
