Also found in the form Daun, the name is common in Aberdeenshire.
In 1527 Johanes and Matheus Done were tenants in Strathdee, and Don was the surname of a family which at one time posessed the lands of Teith in Monteith, Perthshire.
In 1552 David Done was a witness in Glasgow and Rev. George Daun, who was minister of Insch in Aberdeenshire, died in 1821.
