Archibald Montgomerie, 18th Earl of Eglinton: 1939 - 2018

Archibald George Montgomerie, 18th Earl of Eglinton, 6th Earl of Winton and chief of Clan Montgomery passed away on 14th June. He is succeeded as chief by his son Hugh Archibald William Montgomerie

He was made a partner at Grieveson Grant & Company a London based Pension Trust in 1957 and worked there until 1972.

 

On the 7th February 1964 he married Marion Carolina Dunn-Yarker, daughter of John Henry Dunn-Yarker and Elizabeth Adrienne Pinching.

 

On the death of his father, Archibald William Alexander Montgomerie, 17th Earl of Eglinton in 1966 he became Chief of the Name and Arms of Montgomery and also succeeded as the 18th Earl of Eglinton and as 7th Baron Ardrossan, of Ardrossan.

 

He was managing director of Gerrard Holdings between 1972 and 1992 and was member of the London Stock Exchange. He was chairman of Gerrard Vivian Gray Ltd between 1992 and 1994 and was made chairman of Edinburgh Investment Trust plc in 1994

 

He lived in 2003 at Balhomie, Cargill, Perthshire.

 

He is to be cremated at a private family service at Birnam and there will be a memorial service held at St Paul's, Knightsbridge, London, on 11th October.

 

Archibald George Montgomerie is survived by his wife, Marion and 4 sons; Hugh, William, James and Robert and eight grandchildren.
