We would normally recommend taking the 2 week course before hand as this will gives you a good knowledge to start with. However, we do understand that this sometimes will not be possible so we can offer a bespoke option where we will work around you. Course Description You will enjoy learning the wonderful and exciting history of kilts and tartan Be able to understand the complexities of tartan the textile How to take measurements of all shapes and sizes How to set up different tartans All the different hand sewing techniques
You will make 8 traditional handsewn kilts to the absolute highest standards.
To become a fully trained kiltmaker you will need to make:
1 x Childs kilt, made to grow with the wee one
3 x Gents full 8 yard kilts made in different tartans and weights
1 x Ladies or athletes kilt
1 x Highland dance kilt
1 x self colour kilt
1 x military box kilt

The more kilts you make the less tuition you will need, but don’t worry we will still be there for support you throughout. You will also be invited to join our online kiltmakers community, for any help or advice you may need in the future or if you just want the patter.
We also offer an open door Wednesday, where you can come in and sew alongside others. This is not a tuition day just a way to get to know other kiltmakers.
